Two years after her first short film Skivas, Coline Ballet-Baz, the freerider from Isère and former member of the French freestyle ski team, is back in the spotlight with a new video project called RECIPE.
For her second film, the thirty-year-old freeski veteran once again assembled an international and 100% female cast. Including Ballet-Baz herself, Recipe stars skiing luminaries such as freeride icon Michelle Parker, Olympic slopestyle gold medalist Sarah Hoefflin, and stylish Swede Jennie-Lee Burmansson. Margaux Hackett, Maggie Voisin, Taylor Lundquist, rookie freerider Manon Loschi and French mountaineer and highliner Chloé Roux-Mollard round out the roster.
Recipe offers a multi-faceted look at the current pinnacle of women’s freeskiing, from backcountry sessions in La Rosièrte and the very first 100% female park shoot in La Clusaz to street sessions in Salt Lake City. Beyond the athletic performances delivered in Recipe, Coline has also chosen to investigate the beauty and power of the collective on an all-female shoot, portraying both individual characters and the shared energy of the diverse cast. In the film, Coline questions some of her friends about their early careers, the feminine influences they may have received, whether being a woman could have been a hindrance for them in their journey, understanding what inspires them day after day in their dedicated practice, and what makes the moments they experience on skis so unique. Coline’s approach is far from the cliché of comparing men and women in the industry; instead, it’s an opportunity for her to recall the physical and mental commitment required for filming, as well as the fear, the risk, and sometimes the renunciation that everyone can experience in these situations.
Recipe will be screened as a world premiere at the High Five Festival in Annecy, France on Saturday October 1 at 6:30pm, before its official release online at the end of November 2022.
