StepOne | A transition manifesto by Nico Porteous

By: Ethan Stone November 19, 2024

Verily, Nico Porteous is one of the most forward-thinking skiers ever to shred a transition.

Not just a pioneer (of back to back 1620s or carvebacks), more than a contest champion (Olympics, World Championships, X Games), Nico is nothing less than a visionary when it comes to the stunt ditch and its possibilities.

Enter “StepOne,” a video project from Nico and his brother Miguel that’s dedicated solely to transition riding. And not just the Superpipe, but transitions in every shape and size, from your common minipipe to the massive constructs of Swatch Nines.

It’s always refreshing to see a project that’s dedicated to a specific kind of riding. “StepOne” goes even beyond that. It’s nothing less than a manifesto, a declaration of what pipe and transition riding looks like to Nico. With more than a few tricks that you’ve never seen done in a pipe before, Nico pulled out all the stops on this one. Prepare to smash the rewind button a couple times.
