Covered in the fingerprints of creative mastermind Sämi Ortlieb, Open is the first team film from riders behind the new Salomon ski.
More than just a new ski release, the introduction of the Salomon Depart has begun to establish an institution – bringing some of the most creative minds in skiing together. Salomon has seemingly given Sämi and Nico Vuignier full creative freedom in the development of the ski and also in creating the sub-brand that surrounds it. The Depart Zip website is worth checking out – not only will it take you back to the days of dial up internet but there are plenty of easter eggs to explore.
The film is a heavy-hitting street and backcountry flick showcasing the diversity of both the ski and the skiers that are part of the SD institution. Dane Kirk’s opener goes seriously hard but not before maybe the best intro to a ski film this decade. If you fell hook, line and sinker for this one there is no need to feel ashamed, so did I.
