FWT Georgia Pro is confirmed for Saturday, March 1

February 28, 2025

After a cancelled first try last weekend and a few days of waiting, the Freeride World Tour announced that the fourth event of the 2025 FWT will happen this Saturday. Start time will be 12:00 local time (GET) which makes for an early treat for European fans while watchers in North America will have to adapt their nighttime plans. As always, you can watch the livestream on the official event webpage.

Last weekend, the FWT surprised everyone with a last minute announcement of the Georgia Pro, which would have actually been before the official weather window, on a new contest face due to safety concerns and the general situation with weather and snow conditions in Georgia. However, safety work before the start obviously caused some bigger slides and ruled out a contest on that new face. Now, after a week of waiting, conditions in the Greater Caucasus seem to have improved and the organization decided to go back to the tried and trusted Kakhiani face that delivered a thrilling competition last year. So let’s hope both the weather and the snow pack cooperate and the competition can finally be held this Saturday.

The region of Mestia, Georgia and the resort of Tetnuldi saw their FWT premiere last season and had everyone excited with great powder conditions and a challenging venue. It’s good news that the event is planned now for the same face which saw plenty of action 2024 including a cork 7 by Marcus Goguen which helped to secure his victory. Let’s see what the skiers will have in store this time! If you want to prove your expertise , you can do so at the Peak Performance Funbet and win nice prizes.

The Kakhiani face offers 330 vertical meters of varied, technical terrain including plenty of cliffs, narrow chutes and natural take-offs. The start will be at 3,170 meters, posting an additional physical challenge to the athletes. With temperatures as low as -25°C, the snow should be really powdery but strong winds have helped compacting the big amounts of fresh snow, hopefully giving the riders both a save and good to navigate venue. Snowboard Men will start first on Saturday and Ski Men will be last, but due to the great amount of riding options, conditions should be rather even for everyone.

So unless you have plans to ski yourself, see you on the livestream tomorrow!
