Product Spotlight: Ruroc Lite Collection

By: Ethan Stone October 30, 2020

UK-based helmet and goggle manufacturer Ruroc has long enjoyed a controversial reputation among skiers and snowboarders. Their full-face helmet designs, an outlier in the snowsports market, have been the butt of many an on-hill joke. Even so, the company’s unconventional approach has attracted its share of fans, and the quality of their product has never been in question.

Ruroc´s full-face designs tend to evoke a love-it-or-hate-it response.

Aware of their darkhorse status, particularly in the core scene, Ruroc made a conscious decision to get a handful of top ski and snowboard athletes onto their team and involved in their design process. The result of this collaboration is evident in Ruroc’s new Lite Collection, which features a new low-profile helmet, frameless goggle and integrated face mask, with designs and colorways intended to win over the haters.

Lite Helmet

Ruroc took their full-face RG1-DX model to the chopping block to create, as the name suggests, a lighter, lower-profile version. The Lite helmet features an industry-standard EPS foam liner and ABS shell, removable Bluetooth earpads and a magnetic clasp system, and comes in 10 different designs. There’s also a pro model for Max Parrot and a limited-edition “Legendary” model.

Product features:
Impact absorbing EPS liner
Injection-molded ABS shell
Shockwave Bluetooth earpads (removable)
Sizing adjustment wheel
Magnetic Fidlock button
Recco avalanche rescue reflector
EN 1077-B and ASTM 2040 certified
Helmet + goggle + balaclava system

Lite Goggle

The goggle companion to the Lite helmet comes in a frameless design that promises a wide field of vision. A magnetic system ensures quick exchange among the 14 different lens options, while extra lens locking clips help ease the minds of those who don’t trust the magnets to hold during a good old-fashioned tomahawk.

Product features:
Frameless design, wide FOV
Magnetic lens system
Locking clips
Dual-pane construction
Anti-fog lens coating
Super thin strap adjusters

The Lite helmet and goggles are being sold together with an integrated balaclava as a package, although they can also be purchased separately.

Will the new collection win over all of Ruroc’s haters? Probably not. But for the first time, the company has a kit on offer that the majority of skiers wouldn’t mind being seen wearing on the mountain. And their collaboration with athletes from the core scene, from Tanner Hall and LJ Strenio to Andy Parry, might help to soften the edges of a few hard opinions.
