Last Friday, 27 September, visitors to Covent Garden got to witness a unique spectacle: a rail jam in the heart of London.
To celebrate the opening of their new flagship store in the UK, Peak Performance pulled out all the stops with a rail jam in the middle of Covent Gardens, a bustling shopping and entertainment center in London’s West End. Peak Performance team riders Alex Hackel and Theo Thoren showed up ready to ride, while Henrik Windstedt, Hedvig Wessel and Kristofer Turdell cheered from the sidelines.
The setup was built around the Jibworx bus—what Hackel describes as a “party bus” that’s part bar, part DJ booth, and part drop-in for the rail setup. “The bus is everything: the party, the drinks, the DJ, the rail setup,” Hackel explains. Apparently the Jibworx guys are underway with the bus around the UK and France, hosting rail jams with a crew of stoked young jibbers in tow. Sounds like a vibe!
The session went down on Friday, a few hundred meters away from the new Peak Performance store. Hackel and Thoren skied the setup throughout the day alongside a posse of motivated British skiers. The day before, they’d visited the Snow Centre at Hemel Hempstead to check out the local scene.
Hackel’s favorite part of the jam: a SLVSH-style battle against 14-year-old Scottish phenom Deja, who apparently made quite the impression. “I was worried that he was going to beat me in the finals!” Hackel says.
“British skiers are sick,” said Hackel. “I feel like they’re the most overlooked. There are so many of them, and they are so deprived of anything to ski on their island. So the vibe was super nice from everyone!”
The new Peak Performance London Covent Garden store is open daily from 10:00am to 7:00pm. View the location here.
