Summer Throwdown: Copenhill Hosts the Scandinavian Team Battle

This weekend, Copenhill will play host to its first major freeski contest. The Scandinavian Team Battle brings together athletes from five different nations (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, USA and the UK) to throw down in an unconventional summer slopestyle contest.

Since its opening in 2019, the roof of Copenhagen’s new waste-to-energy power plant Amager Bakke has played host to one of the world’s most unique ski slopes. Winding down the angled roof of the power plant, alongside hiking trails and scenic outlooks, is Copenhill, an artificial ski run that’s quite unlike any other.

“We are proud to present our first major freeski event, the Scandinavian Team Battle,” reports Copenhill marketing manager (and quite the turf-shredder himself) Jakob Ebskamp. “The concept is fun and a bit different than a normal slopestyle comp since the athletes are riding together in teams of two against the other teams, each representing their own nation.”

Jesper Tjäder and Emil Granbom will hold it down for Team Sweden, while Ferdinand Dahl and Johan Berg are on hand from Norway. Jakob Ebskamp and Isabella Tvede will represent the host country Denmark, and James Woods and Chris McCormick have made the journey from the UK. Finally, two special guests from the USA, Joss Christensen and Colby Stevenson, will get the chance to adapt their riding to the unconventional terrain of Copenhill.

The event is open to spectators, who can watch the action from the sides of the slope, soak in the Danish summer sun and enjoy some tunes from an onsite DJ. Afterwards, the winners will be celebrated at an afterparty on the rooftop terrace. More info is available on the event’s Facebook page.
