Faction’s second film in their Portraits series, Unfiltered, reflects on Elisabeth Gerritzen’s remarkable seven year career on the Freeride World Tour. After the success of being crowned FWT champion in 2021, Eli sought deeper meaning to life in skiing beyond the competitive system.
Unfiltered presents Eli at a turning point in her career as she battles with the contradiction of being a professional sportsperson – struggling with the censorship that comes hand-in-hand with having a platform. Eli has frequently been suppressed by the rhetoric that sportspeople should stay in their lane to try to keep sport apolitical – something Eli strongly disagrees with. She believes the platform she has should be used to make the world a better place, through activism and representation.
The film covers her relationship with fear, her incredible time on the FWT and her self-doubt surrounding carving out a career beyond the competition circuit, all while showing us Eli what she does best – charging lines. There is no doubt that she is one of the most graceful skiers of her generation and is clearly a deep thinker – hopefully she can combine these two skills going into the future.
