We called, they answered: The Audi Nines “Become A Nine” contest has once again fielded a jaw-dropping collection of video entries from some of the world’s best up-and-coming freestyle skiers and snowboarders.
The Audi Nines is renowned as an exclusive session for top professional freestyle athletes—but without a few rising talents and dark horses in the mix, where’s the fun? That’s why in the name of progression and true to the Audi Nines philosophy, each year young guns are given the chance to ride the innovative course alongside the invited athletes by sending in their “Become a Nine” video submission. The online qualification is open to every male and female freeskier and snowboarder, pros and amateurs alike, from all over the world.
This year’s Become A Nine contest was by far the biggest and best yet with over 70 entries received—more than double the amount of previous years. Given the high volume and quality of the entries, our team had a tough time selecting the winners. However, we’re sure you’ll be as impressed with our winners as we are!
We’ve been overwhelmed with the submissions we got. It’s amazing to see the level, not just of the people we already knew, but also of people we’ve never heard of before!” - Nico Zacek, Audi Nines founder
Never seen a pretzel double before? Then you haven’t watched one of Dean Bercovitch’s edits. This one-of-a-kind skier who calls Whistler, British Columbia home is known for his air awareness and uncanny ability to land tricks most deem impossible. We’re excited to see what he makes happen on The Audi Nines venue.
Carrying on the Finnish tradition of unconventional ski style, Elias Syrjä is another skier with a mind-boggling set of hard-to-believe tricks. Having already impressed at big air contests and SLVSH Cups, we’re stoked to have Elias join The Audi Nines this year.
“I participated in the Become a Nine contest because I really liked watching the recaps from the event every year, and thought it would be so nice to be there one day, and I felt like this was the year I should send the video in. The level of the entries was insane this year and I'm so humbled to make it through.” - Elias
Our sole winner hailing from the Southern Hemisphere, Margaux Hackett has been turning heads recently on the slopestyle circuit. Her short but sweet Become A Nines edit shows that this young gun has what it takes to throw down with the big girls.
“I’m very excited to finally be a part of this crazy event after watching my favourite skiers for so many years. It’s gonna be a fun a week, I can’t wait!” - Margaux
Another up-and-comer on the contest scene, Caroline Claire will make her debut at The Audi Nines this year with a solid skill set both in the air and on the rails. Having already represented her country at the Olympic Games, we’re sure Caroline will be able to hold it down at The Audi Nines as well.
“I’ve wanted to attend this event for years now, so I finally made the edit this year and I’m stoked I was able to win! It should be a fun event—some of my friends are going and they convinced me to make the edit, so I’m hyped it all worked out! I participated because being able to ski for a week with friends and other dope girl skiers is going to be sick!” - Caroline
